With Christmas creeping up on us, we’ve got a very special guest speaking with us this week… Mrs Claus is here to talk about all things Santa Claus, Christmas Eve and life in the North Pole!
An integral part of the Christmas magic, Mrs Claus often works hard from behind the scenes, sometimes going unnoticed. However, the magic of Christmas is something Mr and Mrs Claus work hard on all year round and she is an integral part of the festive season.
All those Christmas cookies she bakes keep Father Christmas and the elves energy up, she organises all of the Santa Letters her husband, Father Christmas, has written so they are sent to the children throughout December and no one is missed out!
She has such an important job and makes sure everyone is looked after all year long and we cannot wait to hear more about her and her life.
What Is a Typical Day like for you at the North Pole?
It’s the best! Always busy, don’t get me wrong, but it is so full of warmth and joy that everyday is amazing.
I’m up early, at the crack of dawn, interestingly, during the winter months the sun barely peeks over the horizon, so we rely on the Northern lights, and sometimes Rudolph red nose, to guide us through the day. My first task, and arguably the most important (apart from when Santa has to deliver presents!) is making a big pot of Cocoa for Santa and all of his elves – they can’t start their day without it.
Morning is the most calm time of the day and when most of us take some solitude time to get ready for the day. Santa reads and replies to letters from little ones all over the world and I wander round the grounds to check on everyone.
The morning meeting is when everyone comes together, and sometimes it’s chaos as some of the elves are chatterboxes! This is the time where we go over plans for the day and get everyone focused – Christmas might only be one day of the year, but the planning for all the presents takes all year.
Our wonderful elves are incredibly hard workers and most people are amazed by how much one elf does in one day – so it’s important to us that they are happy and healthy, after all they are family. So each day I make a big lunch and we will all sit down and eat.
Although I am very busy, I do make time for my own personal hobbies. My favourite? It has to be knitting. From scarves and booties for the reindeer to jumpers for the elves, it’s essential they keep warm on the cold nights and I think they all look quite handsome in their knitted attire…
How do You Help Santa prepare for Christmas Eve?
On Christmas Eve, Kids around the world are getting ready for Santa to drop presents off at their door – but it takes a lot of work behind the scenes to make all of the drop offs perfect. It’s such a magical night!
One of my most important tasks in the run up is helping with the naughty and nice list. We review it regularly but always do our final checks on the morning of Christmas Eve. There are so many last minute changes – and those final moves to the nice list are just the best.
I also help Santa plan his delivery route – from the USA, to Finland to the UK, he has a busy journey ahead of his so it’s best if he goes into it with a solid plan. Of course, he’s been doing this for a long time so he knows every roof top in the world, I just like to double check before he leaves.
Throughout Christmas eve, the smell of my famous chocolate chip cookies fills the air – it’s the biggest day of the year for the team and we’ve got to keep their energy topped up! We’ll sit beside the fire for a few minutes before they have to leave and enjoy a bit of calm before the flurry of magic.
Can you Give us any Top Secret Information?
The world we live in is full of surprises and I think there’s a few I can share…
We have something we call ‘magical snow’ it’s soft, sparkly and doesn’t feel too chilly. Each snow flake has a tiny bit of magic in it – keeping the atmosphere nice and cosy for everyone. Over the past week, the magic snow has covered the entire North Pole!
Everyone always wonders how we keep the reindeer in top flying shape. Well, they go through special training sessions throughout the year, but it’s not all hard work for them. We make it fun! The reindeer have a favourite game called ‘Hoofball,’ which is kind of like soccer but played with soft, glowing snowballs. It’s great exercise and helps them improve their coordination. Even Rudolph plays, though he’s often distracted by showing off his glowing nose
We also feed them a magical blend of Reindeer food, a mix of oats and berries that gives them their strength and flying abilities. And don’t worry—they all get a cosy, heated barn to rest in after their training sessions, complete with blankets I’ve knitted for each of them.
What Message would you like to Share with the World?
The festive season is such a special time, and it goes far beyond the presents and decorations, the message I would share is this:
The true spirit of Christmas lies in the love, kindness and generosity that we share with one another. It’s more than receiving gifts; it’s spending time with loved ones, and showing kindness to those around us!
Even the tiniest act of kindness can light up someones heart like a Christmas tree – so let’s keep spreading joy.
