What Does Santa Do After Christmas?

2 February 2026. By Santa's Little Helper

After Santa Claus’s busy Christmas season is over in December, and he’s been around the world delivering presents, many kids wonder what Santa Claus does next. Christmas Eve is over, and everyone’s presents are delivered – so is it Santa’s holiday?

Even though the holiday season is over for us, the North Pole continues, and Santa doesn’t disappear; he shifts to a quieter, magical routine to rest and get ready for the next Christmas.

Rest and Recovery After the Busy Christmas Season

Christmas is a hard time for Santa, the reindeer, and the elves, so the first thing they do is rest! Rudolph and the reindeer get treats and warm stables, Elves get rest, and plenty of Mrs Claus’ cookies, and Santa enjoys the quiet moments with a hot cocoa and a book beside a warm fire.

Quality Time with Mrs Claus

Over Christmas time, Santa Claus is up out of the house early and doesn’t always get back until late, so the quiet period after Christmas is the perfect time for them to spend time together. They bake together, tell stories, and reminisce on letters sent to them over the festive period.

Santa loves these slow days after the Christmas madness; they allow him to be ready for when it comes around again!

The Elves Tidy the North Pole Workshop

Once the elves are rested, it’s time to tidy up the North Pole workshop. They spend time checking tools, organising wrapping paper, and toy parts.

Everything needs to be put back into perfect condition for when it’s time to make presents for this year’s Christmas.

Looking Back at the Naughty and Nice List

Santa looks back at his naughty and nice list, reading letters from the children. He remembers all of the kind acts and good behaviour!

He also makes notes for whom to look out for, both the naughty and nice list from the beginning of the year – so remember, you have to be good all year long!

New Ideas for Next Christmas

The work to make Christmas magical is year-round. Santa spends some downtime brainstorming new ideas for toys and gifts, and how to make this Christmas better than the last.

Preparing for Letters Again

One of Santa’s favourite things is receiving letters from children around the world. So as soon as kids begin sending letters, he takes time out of his day, every day, to read and respond.

The elves have to spend months preparing paper, ink and envelopes so that Santa has enough to respond with letters to everyone.

The Magic Never Stops

Even though Santa takes a well-deserved break, the magic of Christmas is alive all year round at the North Pole.

They spend months and months preparing for the next season, sorting lists, gifts and making new toys. Without their hard work, Christmas wouldn’t be as magical!

So, keep writing letters, keep being good, and remember – the spirit of Christmas is alive all year round, even if you can’t always feel it.
